About Us

We're bird lovers. So we made shirts for bird lovers.

Here's a fact that surprises almost everyone except the people it describes: one in three American adults watches birds. According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's 2022 national survey, 96 million people in the United States feed, photograph, or go looking for birds — more than a third of everyone aged 16 and up. Bird watching isn't a fringe hobby. It's one of the most popular things Americans quietly do.

We're three of those 96 million. And we noticed something: for a community that big, there were almost no shirts that actually got it. So we made some.

Bird lovers, by the numbers
The hobby is bigger than most people realise. From the same 2022 survey:

96 million Americans watch birds — roughly 1 in 3 adults.
Bird lovers spent $107.6 billion on the hobby in a single year — binoculars, feeders, travel, field guides, the lot.
95% of birders watch from home — 91 million backyard bird watchers, coffee in hand, eyes on the feeder.
43 million will travel a mile or more for a good bird. Some of us will travel three counties. You know who you are.
If any of those numbers describe you, you're in the right place.

What's a "little brown job"?

A little brown job — LBJ, to birders — is a small, plain, brown bird that nobody can quite identify. A sparrow, or a bunting, or a female something. It sits in a hedge, shows you its least useful angle, and leaves before you've finished arguing about it. Every bird lover has stood in a cold field losing that argument. We named the whole label after it, because that shared, slightly hopeless moment is what the hobby actually feels like.

What we make

We make bird t-shirts for people who love birds — and know enough about them to catch the joke. Real nineteenth-century-style engravings, drawn straight, printed on heavyweight cotton with soft water-based inks that won't crack. Some are dry ("Sorry I'm late, there was a bird"). Some are quietly proud (Twitcher, Patch Birder). All of them are made for the 1 in 3 — and make easy gifts for the bird lover in your life who already owns every field guide.

The promise

Every shirt is printed to order, so we never overprint and never waste. We ship worldwide, and a real person answers the email — usually somewhere near a hedge. No motivational slogans, no "live your best life" on a sparrow. Just the hobby, told honestly, by people who also plan their holidays around migration and think that's completely normal.

Little Brown Job — for the 1 in 3 who point at hedges.
